From a friend...

Read it and weep:

Mexico to invest US$7 Billion to build refinery and gas pipeline
through Central America. Also a major hydro project and re-gasifier to
cut energy costs in half.

And Guatemala has first dibs.

Belize should have got this as a strategic "bridge" between Central
America and the Caribbean? We always be looking over the seas to our
CARICOM brothers like they care?

Problem is no one cares much about the Caribbean - they just don't
have the numbers, midgets in everything population-economy wise. Yeah,
we are midget population wise too, but at least more than twice the
size of Jamaica and we are no miserable island.

And our governments, particularly the Rojos have traditionally shunned
Central America in preference to CARICOM. Those Jamaicans are now set
to take away our tour guide jobs and export us their Posse gangs to
boot for crying out loud!

End of Weekend Rant :-)

Put away your kleenex. First of all, only certain catagories of professionals can move freely about for jobs and some of those include college grads and the media, which excludes tour guides and gang members. Secondly, Article 146 removes and closes certain industries, including tourism and mining. CARICOM gives us numbers. I also think we need similiar alliances with our Central American neighbors. Contact Shaun Richards in the Ministry of Foreign Trade for facts.
