Does anyone have any current info on the retirement program? I read that they changed the status of resident to tourist. Also, they're not renewing people's status after two years. Thought I'd ask before I filed the paperwork.

They changed the QRP status last year to permanent visitor, which means you now have to pay higher rate each time you fly in and out of the country. Earlier you paid the residents rate but now you pay the 35 US like a tourist. Have not heard anything about the non renewal of status though.

Read it on belizefirst.com - guy named Lan Sluder? Also he posted this info on the forum when someone was asking for help on renewing.

So I guess if the QRP status is changed to visitor I would not be able to apply for citizenship/passport after five years?

You need to go directly to Immigration dept and ask there if you are in the country. It would seem you would still be allowed to but better to check directly.

hi Flip-flop. Tiem spent in Belize on the QRP program has never been credited towards time for Permanent Residency nor Citizenship.
