A pound of beans costs less than a dollar as well as rice as well as flour as well as sugar. Locally grown veggies and chicken are very very affordable as well. Impored refried beans which are full of saturated fats costs much more than making them at home. Sweetbun = sugar and carbs, not good for the kids anyway.

Homemade beans, fresh veggies, a whole grilled snapper (don't forget the Marie Sharpes) = yum for less than $5BZ.

I would not have children unless I could afford it understanding inflation. Keep it local and make good wholesome home cooked meals. Fortunately we are not addicted to fast food and microwave dinners here. Obese people are the minority here unlike our fat neighbors to the north. So while we may be poor in wealth we are rich in health.

And... I would go to a different shop, because you are being conned there; they apparently use the increase of 9% sales tax to 10% GST as an excuse to raise their prices 30% to 150%.

I agree that the shops here have raised their prices way above what should be 10% gst, to the point of, dare I say it? GOUGING. I try to shop in Belize CIty as much as possible now. I only buy on the island when I absolutely have to.

Especially those nice air-conditioned ones. Why is ther so many hardware stores on the island and more being built daily. Strange?
