We will arrive in Belize on Wednesday, and would like to stay on Caye Caulker, but heard the beach has been completely washed away, and all that remains is a cement sidewalk. Is this true? Also, recommendations for places to stay? Thanks, I can't wait to get there!!

Lies! Lies! Lies! - On the 'rumor' that the beach has been washed away. Go check out the island's newspaper - ConchTelegraph.com - for an up to date report on the island 'post' Hurricane Keith. You can find an issue right here on this website ( drop down menu ).

For accommodations,

Email: [email protected]

for either Shared Room at the "Hostel" or a private room at " Tina's On The Beach ".

Wow! Where did you hear that from? Caye Caulker has never looked better except for less greenery. The beach is looking fantastic! The weather is marvelous and the people are still as friendly as ever. I'm here from England, came for two days and its been over two months and I still haven't left!!!

I was talking with Mr. Creasy from Tree Tops, and she said that the hurricane added 9 feet more to their beach. So much for the rumour you heard, its was not true. The person telling it obviously hasn't been here. I was on Caye Caulker in December and the palms are about 1/3 grown back with fronds. I'll be returning in a couple of weeks and I expect to see more new growth. Its was good to see them coming back to life so quickly. The mangroves on the back side of the island looked about 1/2 way back to normal. It was a pleasant surprise because I was there 3 weeks after the hurricane, and it was sad. I agree with the other posting, the beaches look great, never better, 1000% better shape than when I came in January, when the only place to swim was at the split.
