I would like to travel to Tikal using local buses? How long does it take? What are the transfer points? Is this a worthwile endever or too much trouble? Thanks for whatever information that you can provide.

At the moment you can book a minibus ride (express - no stops except at the border) from Belize City to Flores for $8 U.S. one way. That dirt cheap. The regular price is $20 U.S. one way.

Who can I book the minivan with? Is this a regular trip? Do they pick people up in San Ignacio?

Hi:

If you are on Caye Caulker, you can book the minivan through my office, Caye Caulker Travel and Tour. The minibus does NOT pick up in San Ignacio, or at the border, or wherever, except the designated departure point of the water taxi terminal in Belize City. Their license does not allow otherwise.

That offer is only valid for a short while, so your travel date is of utmost importance.

Wendy, what time is the departure from the water taxi dock to Flores and what time does the schuttle arrive in Flores? Does it travel to Tikal or is that a separate shuttle? Also very important, what is the return time of the shuttle to Belize, would it be possible to be dropped off at the international airport?There would be 3 of us travelling.Thanks

Hi again Richard:

The minibus leaves the water taxi terminal at 10:00 a.m. and arrives in Flores at 2:00 p.m. Tikal is an additional shuttle ride of an hour more.

Departure time from Flores to Bze is 6:00 A.M. Not possible to drop you off at the International Airport for the very same reasons I mentioned before. You would arrive at the water taxi terminal at 9:45 a.m. You would need to take a cab from there to the international airport (half hour taxi ride).
