We have tradewinds that come in from the Northeast most of the time which keeps the mosquito population blown to the back side of the island. I don't use any spray because I'm allergic to it. The times to watch out are... sunrise and sunset. For sandfleas, the only thing that seems to work is slathering on baby oil. If they land in the oil slick and try to take a bite, they get a mouthful of oil and drown. Believe me, it works. I've lived in Belize for 2 years and havent had any problems with malaria.
