My friends and I will be traveling to Caye Caulker at the end of May. Should we bring cash in US dollars or are there banks to exchange currency on the island?

Second, will US cell phones work on the island? I know - sad but true - will have to bring my cell.

Third, how early does the water ferry run? If I have an 1pm flight out of Belize City, what time should I leave that morning to arrive to airport on time? Do we have to book seats ahead of time?

Thanks if anyone can help.

golden; US currency is accepted everywhere. you'll get change in BZ$ but you easily get used to the 2-1 exchange. a credit card helps for purchases, or to go to the bank when you run out of $$$ as i did! i am not answering your cell phone question!!! (leave it at home, you are on vacation!!) water ferry schedules are on the internet and they run regularly, no reservations needed.(you could fly there, $43) if you wish, e-mail me at for any answers you need.

I just got back from Caye Caulker. My husband, 2 1/2 year old son, and myself. Had a fantastic time. Wendy Auxillou from Auxillou suites booked all our activites and provided spacious new acommodations (best on the island). located right in the center of town and right on the ocean. Did all the leg work on activities (diving, fishing, and cave tubing, local plane tickets) so we could enjoy our vacation. I will definately stay with Wendy next time and have her book all our activities. The Grid Iron was a favorite for hanging out in the evening. You felt right at home like Norm Peterson from the start. Very friendly island I would highly recommend. Pay the bucks ($46) for the flight from Belize city instead of the ferry. I great start and end to the vacation.
Everywhere takes US dollars 1US for 2BZ.
No! US Cell Phones do not work. Buy a BLT phone card on the island and talk quick on pay phones that are all over the place.
