We are looking at possibly coming to CC for a week the second half of Sept. Have heard this is supposed to be a more intense hurricane season in general. Can any folks say how that may affect CC weather in Sept? Thanks in advance.

In my experience, September and October can be 2 of the best diving and snorkeling months. Because the water is usually so calm, visibility is excellent. No one can predict a storm until it happens. Hotels and guesthouses on Caye Caulker are very aware of incoming weather via the Weather Channel on Cable TV and Internet. The property owners act responsibly if there is a storm threat, by immediately evacuating their guests to the mainland. September and October are known as hurricane season months, and any big storms we've had, have come during that time. Rest assured, if bad weather is coming our way, we know about it several days in advance.

Yeah Lee,

Well put.

However, I'd like to make it clear that Caye Caulker has been hit by major hurricanes - in the 1930's, in the 1960's and then again in 2000. More or less every 30 years!

We did feel some of effects of Hurricane Mitch in 1998 but it did not hit us ( or even the country of Belize for that matter ). It devasted Honduras and other Central American countires.

Hurricanes have also devasted other Caribbean islands and coastal states in the USA - Florida etc...

Has anyone mentioned that the Windsurfers are very happy with 'extra windy weather'...?...
