The Village council has just begun construction of a new water taxi pier to update and replace the old, narrow pier located on the East side of Caye Caulker. The water taxi office will be located directly on the pier when complete, making ticket purchase more convenient. The pier at Popeye's Beach Resort is being used temporarily to load and unload passengers.

It will also include a tatch palapa at the end (coated with fire retardant), have a mini tourist information center, a ticket terminal as well as have lighting that will adhere to port standards. Lighting will include an amber light on the south eastern end of the pier, three hundred feet of rope light and the possibility of three decorative light poles on the pier itself.
