So what are good rums to buy when I'm in Caye Caulker? We've got a fridge in our room and I figure to have it stocked with fruit juices so I can make drinks in the room. TIA.

One Barrel is the best local rum. Also you can get duty free comming in. My advice, go to the split during happy hour and get any rum drink, gingerale and rum is my favorite! Or go any time for that matter. Also check out I and I, for a "swinging" time!

One Barrell has a interesting history.Up to the early eighties rum cost less in Belize than the heavy corked bottles it came in. You bought rum in small places on a "bring your own bottle" basis. For a small bar it was best to use the strongest and cheapest variety- One Barrell. It was sold as concentrated rum and you mixed it with water behind the bar to make various proof products from one barrel. A big company bought them out but returned the product to market when it's noticable taste proved a favorite of rum aficiandos worldwide.
