Is there any cost involved in a Transit Visa?
I now there is when applying for a tourist visa.

How long does a Transit visa take to get?

Thanks for all information.

I have never heard of a transit visa in Belize maybe because most passports need not pay to get a visa in advance. They give you thirty days free upon arrival. Don't just ask for one day or that is all you will get and life is full of changes of plan.

Can you clarify? What country are you coming from and what country do you want to go to?

I would call the U.S. Embassy to get a definitive answer. I believe (but check with them) that the only tinme you need a transit visa is if you are coming in by land and crossing the U.S. in a car, to get to Canada. Usually when you are flying thru Miami to get to Europe they put you in the transit lounge, which is a special area of the airport.

There is now no difference between a transit and tourist visa.

When we rang the embassy for my Belizean friend, they said you need a visa to pass through the States, with all the waiting and $100 charge...

But it's best to ask the embassy. It was really easy to get through to them though and ask them all the questions

Have you thought of just flying out of Cancun direct to Europe. Would save you alot of hassle and costs for the US visa.

The USA doesn't recognise "transit" in the way it is seen by most other countries. Even if you're getting off one plane straight onto another you have to go through the full paraphernalia of Immigration and Customs. Furthermore you can't check your baggage through the States but have to collect it to take it through Customs with you. Quite absurd, but there it is. Buy a ticket to transit any European country and you get put into a secure Transit lounge between flight, you don't have to go through and formalities, and you don't see your checked baggage until you arrive at your final destination. This US nonsense is nothing to do with 9/11 - it existed before. But with the extra "checks" now done at US airports reckon on a very long time to clear formalities. "American" recently booked me from Belize to Miami, changing to a flight for Europe that left 2 1/2 hours later. "American" said that was plenty of time. But just getting to the front of the incredibly long line in Immigration actually took 5 hours. And then the officer was surly and officious.

The best advice on transitting the USA is "don't". Try to find another route. Cancun often provides a much better alternative.
