Water Taxi Wave of the Future
The Caye Caulker Water Taxi Association is entering a new era of speed and comfort. An era of larger vessels that are 95% enclosed to protect the passengers from the elements. The enclosures shield the travelers from the burning ultra-violet rays of the tropical sun and the wave spray of the Caribbean Sea. With the advent of the new “super taxis” the short shuttle from the Belize City terminal on North Front Street to either Caye Caulker or San Pedro is one of comfort and security.
One of the first of the of the new breed of “super taxis” is the massive 47 foot “Sea Master” owned and operated by highly respected boat captain, Tony Aguilar. Tony informed the BELIZE TIMES that his Sea Master can easily sit 75 people with extra arm room plus luggage. He said the three 200 hp Yamaha engines allow his vessel to cruise at a quick 49 mph. Sea Master has a fiberglass roof, surround around Plexiglas windows and wide seating.
The Water Taxi Association has agreed to retire all their vessels under 38 feet in length. Also it is reported that for new taxis entering the association fleet, enclosed seating will be mandatory.
All in all the Sea Master is a classy, very safe and speedy way to visit your favorite caye. The handsome Sea Master is the wave of the future in caye hopping.
