My wife and I have just booked 7 days in Ambergris Caye in August. This is our first time there and look forward to this trip.
I have a question concerning snorkeling equipment. Is it a good idea to bring our own mask, snorkel and fins or just use the equipment offered by the operators. Do they have a large choice of sizes and fits ? Is the equipment of good quality ?
Thank you in advance for the input.

It's always better to have your own equipment, but lugging fins around is a pain. Equipment in San Pedro varies from operator to operator, but generally it's okay. My own personal preference is to bring my own mask and snorkel (don't weigh much and are easy to pack) and use the dive shop's or boat's fins.

My husband and I prefer to backpack it in Belize, which means leave any unneccessary items at home. The first couple of times that we went to Ambergris we took mask, fins, snorkel. Later, we found it easier to use the dive shop's equipment. I would advise that if you are just snorkeling, to rent the equipment.

I agree with Lan. We take our own masks and snorkels and rent fins for the length of our stay. If you love to snorkel and your mask leaks it can ruin your trip. Why take a chance?

Thank all for the advise. I think we'll come with the mask and snorkel and rent the fins there. I can't wait !!!
