I was just reading the "questions" posted on the board. I'm curious, when I got to the replies about buying food, snacks, etc on A.C. the mention of BBQ charcoal for $25.00 U.S., thought WOW!
Of course, they did not mention what size of box it was for that price but if it is high... What does everyone BBQ with?

i don't want to sound smartalecky but don't they have wood on AC,

...ah i see, coconut husks, so obvious for someone who has been there. I'll be there soon.

Hey Debbie, good thing that chicken wasn't still alive or else you would of had to wring its neck.

Coconut husks! They make the best coals.

Wendy, I have heard that some use coconut. It just seemed strange that if charcoal was as costly as posted. There must be some cheaper wood or BBQ's would be very expensive. I can't see all charcoal being so high. Thanks

WHAT!!!???? We bought charcoal and it wasn't anywhere near that price!!!!!!!! It was NOT American brand charcoal. It came in a paper sack and was burnt wood chuncks. Worked better than the charcoal we get here. We thought it was great. We bought it at the little grocery store down near Paradise Villas.

I thought it was extreemly high. But Tammy posted on the questions--help that she purchased charcol for $25.00. Boy did that open our eyes wide! I knew there had to be a better source than that. The other half has used coconut,he loves to BBQ.

It's true....dry coconut husks are the fuel of choice here for the local people. Not only is there an abundant supply.....but it isnt treated with any chemicals and it light with out starter fluid....just strike a match to it. Keep in mind....it must be the dry husks....not the green ones. [Linked Image]

Sandshaker and Marvel,
Thought you would both get a kick out of this one, speaking of BBQ. I wanted to BBQ on the patio while there. Fell in love with Jambel's jerk chicken and thought I might try making it myself. Got the grill from the hotel management, bought the charcoal, and went shopping for chicken. The market, don't remember the name but it was green, had only frozen chicken. I asked the girl if they ever had fresh chicken in, as I wanted it for lunch. She looked at me funny and said, Yeah, I can get fresh chicken, come back in 45 minutes. Did the rest of my shopping and came back. Chicken was in a plastic bag. Went home and dumped it in the sink to wash it. It still had legs, feet and feathers!!!!!! I about died. My husband laughed so hard he peed himself. His prize picture of me in Belize is me cutting the feet off a chicken and plucking it. Was definately a new experience. Good for a laugh anyway. Aren't we all so spoiled?? Have to say, though. It was the FRESHEST chicken I ever ate.

What an experience, I am still laughing. i give you credit that you deal with the chicken. I would have given it back, and not asked for money back, the price would have been worth the laugh.

Are you sure that it was a chicken? Did it have a fishy flavour?
