My husband and I will be on AC Oct 11-16 and will stay at Belizean Reef Condotel. Any info on this place. We picked it because it's a short walk from town and next door to Ramons. I want to be able to snorkle off their pier. Good or Bad choice? Also, would welcome any other advice. We want to avoid tourist traps. This is our first getaway alone since before our 2 yr old. Thanks!

Ramon;s artificial reef at the end of the pier is a good place to get adjusted to your snorkeling gear, and it is fun, lots of fish there. I do not believe their are any tourist traps on Ambergris. So go and enjoy.

hi. i stayed at ramones in 1993, and i had never snorkeled before (i'm not a strong swimmer). my husband walked me out to the end of the pier, i climbed down the ladder, and was ABSOLUTELY AMAZED> there really were tons of fish right there to see. it was so cool, like vertual reality,we went to hol chan that afternoon! i don't think there were any "tourist traps" on AC when i was there back then. just smiles [Linked Image]

We were down there last week and our main group stayed at the Belizean Reef. The rest of the party at the Palms which we were very happy in, but more expensive than the Belizean. We were suppose to move over the Belizean but they were some problems. Suggest a second or third floor unit--and the units are nice and roomy inside with nice side balconies on these floors. They were happy with the accomodations and the maid service, etc.
Here is my humble suggestions for AC--
staying in a condo, I would pack all dry food I thought I would be using. The food in the supermarkets are pricey..and we all agreed we would leave more clothes at home and bring more food. There are two major supermarkets in town, but if you head to the little "town" shops you can usually find a better price. There are two wholesale liquor stores--one domestic and one import--and the liquor and the mixes are much cheaper there then the supermarkets and they are both on middle street. (Trust me, won't take long to find things in town, with basically two streets).
To do laundry is also expensive, so alittle woolite can go along way.
Have fun, the people are great, Island Dog, has his office in front of the Reef, does pencil art and a nice guy.

Belizian Reef was built in 1995 and I have stayed in unit # 2 at least 8 times for up to 2 weeks at a time since then. In fact I will be there from Oct. 3 thru 17th. Great location, great apts, could not have made a better choice. Ken and Virginia (managers) are great people. Have a ball!!
