Seventy five percent of respondents to an online poll conducted on the website of the Caye Caulker Chronicles (
www.cayecaulkerchronicles.com) have made it clear that there should not be easy access to golf cart permits on the island.
The Caye Caulker community has long been protective of its easygoing lifestyle, promoting a leisurely type of island living unencumbered by four wheeled vehicluar traffic. To date, the main mode of transportation on the island is two legs, followed by two wheels (bicycles) and then golf carts. Recently a few permits have been granted for motorized four wheeled vehicles.
The biggest detriment to the island's beauty, said one business owner, is the importation of motorized four wheeled vehicles.
