Western Regional Hospital Receives New Equipment

The Western Regional Hospital (Belmopan) received a Blood Chemistry Analyzer donated by the Johnson and Johnson Company through the kind efforts of the InterVol group of Rochester General Hospital in New York on January 9th, 2007.
Receiving on behalf of the Hospital was Western Regional Manager, Mrs. Pearl Ellis who expressed gratitude on behalf of the hospital and people of Belize. The equipment was specifically requested by the Medical Technologist, Mr. Jose Guerra and Mrs. Ellis who identified the need within the hospital’s laboratory.
The Analyzer, valued at some BZ$80,000.00 will be used to provide diagnostic readings on liver functions, cardiac and kidney functions, cholesterol, triglycerides, sodium, potassium and other electrolyte levels in the blood.
Belize Natural Energy provided the transport for the delicate and sensitive equipment from the United States to Belize, facilitated by Dr. Peter Allen, the Director of the Policy Analysis and Planning Unit at the Ministry of Health.
The InterVol group of Rochester General Hospital in New York facilitates the visit of medical volunteers who bring specialist surgical teams to volunteer at Western Regional Hospital every year.
