well, this story sounds familiar. LOL. Just make sure you have enough money to live on. It ain't cheap to live there. ALWAYS have your return ticket and $$$ to get home stashed. Don't plan on anyone helping you monetarily down there.....and don't even THINK about starting a tab at Pedro's.....FYI, a guy with your almost exact description moved down to SP on a limited income and lost his A$$, borrowed money from a bunch of people, took advantage of kind hearted folks, left the country, they were never paid back, and he didn't bother to give them an explanation or a kiss g'bye. Yes, Pedro, that includes me. Good luck BR....just make sure you can afford it before you jump in over your head. Don't count your internet chickens before they hatch.

Look up "Deacon". In general, if you have US$2500+ per month you should be fine, unless you have expensive tastes.

Sorry Broadrunner we are feeling a bit stung of late and you got in the middle. Fairly easy to get an apartment for under $600us. This will not be on the beach but could be 2 blocks away, but probably more. It will come sort of furnished and your utilities will run you a $200 month or so unless you like air conditioning then maybe as much as $600us. Food will be about 20% more then you spend now. You will need to change your eatting a bit to stay at the 20%. If you like to drink you will drink a lot here so figure that in - no idea. Remember to figure in your trips back to the states. There will also be set up costs, things like deposits for utilities, a bike, TV. I would think a bare minimum would be $1,000us and that does not include rent. There are some number for you to think on.

Life is not about waiting for the storm to pass, it's about learning to dance in the rain.
