Marty!! I just read and did a little research. Is it really cheaper to fly out of the municiple airport on Maya Island air? How much is a taxi ride to the municiple air strip from the international airport? From what I saw, round trip air out of intnl. to San Pedro is $93 round trip. From the municiple, it is only $52. Is this correct or is the information I found old? Debbie

Your figures are roughly correct. It is much cheaper to fly from the muncipal airport to anywhere in Belize, though the savings vary from destination to destination, ranging from about 15% to 45%. Taxi fare between the two airports is US$15, but since you are looking at round-trip fares you have to multiply that figure by two. Unless you are a real penny-pincher, it's probably not worth the extra time and effort to shuttle between the two airports unless you are traveling in a party of three or more, in which case it does save a good deal. If you want to save even more, take the water taxi/ferry, which is US$12.50 one-way. --Lan Sluder Belize First Magazine http://www.turq.com/belizefirst/

I agree with Lan. It's really not worth the hassle unless you have a party of at least three, I think four. With the taxi, time, and logistics, just take the plane over to AC. If you are new to Belize, double that advice. Baggage, taxi, and booking over are not worth the savings in my opinion. Say hey to Jet for me while you're at International!

Debbie, we just got back from Belize last nite and I amen the above answer to your questions. Unless you decide to do the turf (mainland tour) then surf (temptation Island) as we did tour of Belize, the best way would be the least resistance which would be by air. We met your sister Tammy last Thur. and Fri. and are blessed to have met the most friendly and wonderful people that we did while in Belize. We were met at the airport when we arrived by Mr. Lenny Wragg who took us to the Aguada hotel in Santa Elena and arranged some of our mainland tours. He then picked us up in San Ignacio and transported us to the water taxi terminal with first a personal tour of the Belize zoo before we went to San Pedro. This was Lenny's suggestion to get to San Pedro via our route (water taxi to S.P./airplane back) and was cheaper including the zoo and his fare than round way from Belize International to San Pedro. If you plan any mainland excursions, I definetly reccomend Lenny, or just take de plane if you only want to go to San Pedro.

Deb, I definitely agree with everyone else... while Mun is cheaper it makes more sense to fly out of International.

Some tropic air flights go to International, then on to muni. if you do that you would save accordingly. I went Placencia, Dandriga,International, then Muni--Muni was same cost as International. Taxi to water taxi is also cheaper from muni than from international. The key question is--can you fly into muni? If you are connecting with an international flight it is a moot point, but if not, muni may be best.

You guys are great! Thanks for the advice. Hubby tended to agree with all of you, and doesn't want the hassel of a taxi ride to municiple. He frowned on the water taxi as he heard that it's not covered and a few people got caught in a rain storm. What a way to start your vacation. Hanging wet clothes all over your room. I though, tend to be a penny pincher, and always look for the most economical. How many water taxis do they have going to AC? I only found one, and it leaves at 9:00 am. Our flight arrives at 10:30, so that wouldn't do. Are there more that I don't know about? TexasDog, I am so pleased that you met my sister. I can't wait to see her in June. She's something else. Glad to hear you had such a good time. This time we're going solo. No kids. ![[Linked Image]](//ambergriscaye.com/message/smile.gif) Debbie

There are three water taxis leaving from the Marine Terminal daily to San Pedro -- 9, noon and 3. These are the ones run by the Caye Caulker Water Taxi Association and in my opinion are the best ones to take -- easy to find, safe waiting area in the Marine Terminal, something to while you wait (see the museums in the building), they're dependable, etc. On a nice day they're a great way to get to Ambergris Caye, but if the water is rough or it's rainy, then they are not so pleasant. --Lan Sluder Belize First Magazine http://www.turq.com/belizefirst/
