Hey folks --

My wife and I are looking into coming to Belize for a week or so in mid to late August. While everyone I know who's been down says the weather is great pretty much all year round, I was wondering if anyone has a good estimate of average rain total and/or rainy days in August. Also, are the rains typically in all day afairs, in the morning or afternoon and if short in duration, typically how long (I realize exact numbers are impossible, but a rough guess would be great).

Finally, a linguistics question -- how much is Spanish spoken?

Thanks for the help, John Stanton

I don't know if there are any official rain stats for Ambergris Caye, but Belize City gets about 8 inches in August, on average, and I would think usually San Pedro gets a little less than that, as it's farther north. The times I've been on the island in August the weather has always been nice, sunny mostly with short periods of rain ... of course, with sub-tropical weather there are no guarantees.

Most Sanpedranos are at least bi-lingual (Spanish-English), speaking Spanish with friends and family and English with visitors from the U.S. and Canada.
