Tropica is a pretty nice place, about 1 1/2 miles or a tad more south of town. The beach here, Mar de Tumbo, is one of the best on the island. Rooms are on the small to medium side, nicely furnished, in four-plex buildings. There's a very nice pool. The restaurant to me is so-so, and a bit pricey, but good for breakfast. The best restaurant south of town in my opinion is El Patio at Rock's II.
I personally think you get more space and even friendlier service next door at Banana Beach (all units are one-bedroom condos, with full kitchens), but Tropica is nice, too. I'd certainly suggest you compare rates with Banana Beach and also the very nice Villas at Banyan Bay, another condotel which is just north of Tropica.
