Four of us will be traveling to San Pedro the first week of may. We are interested in a fishing charter. We don't care if we do flats or deep sea fishing. Our priorities are to enjoy the day, have a few beers, and catch fish. Our last few efforts (not in Belize) have yielded sunburn and little else. Who will give us the best day for a reasonable price? Deep sea or flats? We are staying at Xanadu. Thanks!

I have never paid more than $175 US for a half day of fishing. $250 for a full day.

My wife and I will be at Xanadu 5-12 May. Unit 4A. Hope to see the 4 of you and share a beer by the pool.
As far as fishing goes. There is no doubt in my mind you will catch a lot more than Sunburn. Book a reef trip. There are many many good guides there. The price ranges do not vary too much. Expect to pay $200 for a half day ( 2 people) and add $15-$20 per additional person. Full day $300 ( for 2) add $15-$20 each aditional person. Full day trips usually provide a lunch and the guide will cook some of your catch.

My Wife and I did a Flats trip and a reef trip last time. the fishing was amazing.

Don't concern yourself about not having a good Day on the water. You are about to have a great time. Relax enjoy it. meet people, The Island is like no other place you'll ever experience

Xanadu can book your fishing trip for you and the guide will pick you up right at the Dock.

All--Thanks for the suggestions. Bill--would it make sense to hunt around for different fishing and diving trips or should we just book through the hotel. We don't want to be ripped off but it would be nice to book right where we stay. Should we book ahead of time or can we book once we get there? Sounds like the reef trip is a bit better than flats or are they both good? Thanks!

The difference between the reef trip and flats trip is all a matter of your preference. I did both ( but I'm a fishing nut smile )The flats trip would be somewhat crowded if all 4 of you wanted to fish at the same time. Almost impossible I would think.Fishing for bonefish is 99.9% sight fishing. Most often done with flyrods, but can be done with Spinning gear as well. you can troll the flats with live bait and most often than not pick up barracuda.
For the numbers of fish and the variety of fish I would def. recommend a Reef trip. This can either be bottom fishing or trolling. Either way should pick up quite a number of fish off the reef.
I don't dive, but there are very very many on here who do and are very helpful when asked for reccomendations to dive guides.

You will find that Xanadu posts all sorts of trips fishing, caving, zip-lining etc. and as far as I saw they were comparable to every other place in town. If you contact Susan at the Office by Email and let her now what you are looking to do I know she will have it all set up for you when you arrive. However, no matter who you book with you will have a wonderful day of fishing ( weather permitted of course). There are so many guides available, and from reading peoples reports here the majority of them are excellent.
