What's the best way to go about buying a boat on AC? Does anybody have any suggestions? Are there better deals in Belize City? Thanks.

What are you looking for. I know of three good deals on used boats between 16 and 22 feet. Also some good boat builders on the mainland.

We have a place at Sunset Beach and are looking for a boat for recreational use (basically, fishing and trips to caye chapel when we play golf)...the lengths you mentioned sound about right (especially around 22 ft). We definately want a trailor too bc we will store it when we are not on AC.

I would love to hear about these deals and the name of the builder on the mainland. Are you in this business at all or is this just common knowledge?

Thanks a lot for responding!

There is someone that has a Luna 25 at Sunset Beach which looks like a very well built boat, the Luna boat yard is on the island. A 25 starts at $22KBZ and goes up depending on what you add to it. They custom build from 14' to 30'. Roberto Canul runs the place and his number is 670-4157.

Mexican skiff is a great way to go, with a Yamaha 4stroke (new). Used boats can be a good deal, but you never really know what you are getting. If interested PM and I can give you contact info for the gentleman that imports such boats.

Just make sure you get a high bow if you want to stay dry. I drive a Mexican skiff and the bow is just a bit low which means I spend many a windy day covered in spray.

The Boat

Joe and John were identical twins. Joe owned an old dilapidated boat and kept pretty much to himself. One day he rented out his boat to a group of out-of-staters who sank it. Joe spent all day trying to salvage as much stuff as he could and was out of touch all that day and most of the evening.

Unbeknownst to him, his brother John's wife had died that day. When he got back to shore he went into town to pick up a few things at the grocery. A kind old woman there mistook him for John and said, "I'm so sorry for your loss. You must feel terrible."

Joe, thinking she was talking about his boat said, "Hell no! Fact is I'm sort of glad to be rid of her. She was a rotten old thing from the beginning. Her bottom was all shrivelled up and she smelled like old dead fish. She was always holding water. She had a bad crack in the back and a pretty big hole in the front too. Every time I used her, her hole got bigger and she leaked like crazy. I guess what finally finished her off was when I rented her to those four guys looking for a good time. I warned them that she wasn't very good and smelled bad. But they wanted her anyway. The damn fools tried to get in her all at one time and she split right up the middle..."

The old lady fainted.

Cfalexan, We own a Luna-25 same as the one Simon mentioned. we have had it for over a year now. Love it, powered it with a Yamaha 115hp four stroke and it runs and handles great. p/m me if you want add'l information. The price that Simon mentioned is less the engine and a lot of hardware, steering etc. a complete finished product will run you north of 50,000bz.
