Any expert locals out there? my boyfriend and I will be coming into town on Monday, what does a newbie need to know? Is there anything special happening for the last weeks in May? Is there something that we need to pack? we will be staying at the Belizean shores, what do we need to see and do down there? we love live music and drinks where can we go for that? How long are the walks to and from destinations...will we need a golf cart for the trip? we have never been down there and would appreciate any advice that anyone may have! Thank you

hello!

We are from California as well and we will be in AC on 05/24 I can't wait. It will be our first time too, but I think things will be easy to figure out!

Asking for advice from locals on this board may get you more than you bargained for.
were a bunch of locals full of advice at least I think thats what they said we were full of!?
Belizean shores is good and you'll find out the Island ferry is a quick and easy way to get around. runs 15 min after every hour at the end of your dock odd hours going north even hours going south , town is south and about 12 to 15 min. ride, cost aprox 12$. It docks at the Fidos dock in San Pedro and by the way Fidos is late night music and dancing with good food place to be , how ever Wet willys is cool also and a short walk from fidos up the beach.
The golf cart rental to get around is your call ,road is bad at best, it cost to cross the bridge.after you arrive on the ferry in town most everything is walking distance.
Hol Chan/ Shark Ray Alley is the Marine Reserve you won't want to miss, Its a half day Snorkeling adventure thats a must do and cost about 40.$ Nigel is the man to see on your dock, boat leaves at 9:am back about 11:30. way cool. Ask me anything!

airmaye ...Belizean Shores is awesome. I used to stay there before I moved here three years ago.

Button Pusher, I'm also from L.A.

Just get here, let it happen. Explore. That's best for a first trip unless you have a diving or tour agenda. Lot's to do. A golf carts nice if the weathers good but a long trip from B Shores. Do you bike? Bikes can go on the beach and rent reasonable. also can stop where ya want along the way. The ferry boats are 25.00 bz. each way per person. There's a lot to do and see but come by Ruby's hotel for coffee early in the morning and sit with us on the deck. 7:00 to 8:30 AM Ease drop and you'll learn plenty. I'm Jonathan.

I'm not an "expert" but we have a second home on AC and spend about 4 months out of the year there and absolutely love it. Come here and enjoy......your second trip will be better than the first.....and so on and on.

I dunno about that. I've always thought that the reason I keep going back is because I'm trying to recapture the awesomeness of that first trip!! smile

Airmaye

The cost one way to and from Belizian Shores is $7 US ($14BZ). Week passes run around $40US for unlimited service anywhere on our regular route.

Belizean shores has the best swimming pool. Enjoy your stay.

Contact for Island Ferry at 226 3231.

Money and talking Dollars!
A Belize Dollar is worth 50 cents us and it is wise to always clarify which you are talking in.
everyone accepts us dollars as well as Belizean dollars be sure and say 'Belize?' when some one speaks dollars. Don't bother having your us changed to Bz. Two to one exchange rate is the way we go.
menu's dollars in restaurants go both ways its always a pleasant surprise to discover they meant BZ instead of US.
I checked with the ferry driver yesterday after I told you the trip from Belizean Shores was $12, He said its $14 but thats BZ so thats $7 us. to town.

"Button Pusher, I'm also from L.A."

We are from the Central Valley, Modesto Ca......Yes you know where that is, the town of Scott Peterson! If it was not for Scott and for the murders of the women in Yosemite Modesto would only be known for Graffiti.

We plan to stay at Banana for a few days before heading to the Main Land and Tikal. I love to snorkel, and am trying to build my courage to dive, Thinking of taking a "Resort Course"

I am not sure what the locals are full of....I am guessing Rum, save some for us!
