Our family may possibly be relocating to AC sometime in the next few months. We have never been there, and I have a few questions. Do most of these posters live on the island? We have two little boys (6 & 4yrs) Are there many other kids that age there? Are there many American families there? What does anyone know about the Island Academy? What does it cost? Where can we find a house to rent to live? Are there any Marinas if we have a liveaboard boat? Where we live, there is a full service hotel that has a marina, and if you liveaboard there, it is $250/month, and you get full hotel privilages too. Anything like that there? What about bugs? Are there any problem bugs that you battle inside your houses> (ie roaches) How do you combat them? What about medical services there? Do you need medical insurance? Finally, what is the deal with relocating there? I know we need passports, and we can stay for thirty days. Beyond that, I am confused. How do we get to stay? It would be for at least one year, maybe forever!! Thanks in advance for all your input!

Whoa! You're getting way ahead of yourselves. Don't even think about relocating here till you've visited at least once. I/we could never describe it well enough for you to make that decision. The only "marina' is a few slips at Belize Yacht Club, a resort condo.
Most people posting on this board don't live here... some have visited many times, others never.

I completely agree with Jesse's response above. Don't even think about relocating until you have been there personally to check out Ambergris Caye and Belize in general. Living there is almost a complete change of life style and it's definitely not for everyone.

The one statement I hear over and over is: "Boy, I'd love to live here" Then only a very small percentage actually take the plunge and move to Belize... out of that percentage, a larger amount eventually moves back to the US.

I'd give this some serious thought AND ONLY after visiting...
