I am deciding between Casa Caribe Resort on the north end of the island (not Caribe Island Resort on the south end) vs. The Palms which is closer to town. I have heard good things about each and would like some other opinions on these two places. I know the pros/cons of the water taxi vs. being able to walk to town, but what about the accomodations themselves--I know Casa Caribe has its own restaurant--is their food good? Are there other good restaurants on the north end that are within walking distance?
I don't want a huge resort with a hotel-like atmosphere and Casa Caribe seems to be on a little smaller scale with individual buildings having 3 or 4 condos each rather than one huge building with all condos under one roof. I appreciate your thoughts.

We have property near Casa Caribe and we have eaten lunch there many times over the years. The food is good and the selection is mixed local and other. Service is very friendly. The pool is cool and the beach & dock are very nice. Don't know about any other restaurant within walking distance though - I don't think so. Pretty much isolated up there.
Casa Caribe is near Mexico Rocks my favorite snorkel and fishing spot. The water is incredibly caribbean blue there!
You are correct about the scattered casas, with nice landscaping and very open - not hotel like at all.
