Can anyone tell me what the law is on bringing seeds or bulbs into the country?
I am in California and there are a lot of things I want to grow that are not available to me there.
I understnd about protecting the enviornment and will be more than cautious.
Thanks

I would contact BAHA, the laws are probably just as strict here as they are in the US for importing plants.

Thanks Simon
I purused their sight and now know what is expected of a plant inspector. Still don't know what, if any I can bring in. Know that I can't bring anything citrus or fruit flies. humm

Think you are OK with seeds from sealed packets bought in a store, but no idea about bulbs. I would phone them though and get a definitive answer.

I had grass seed confiscated from me at the airport years ago.
Got a lecture from the agricultural agent at the airport.
Was told that I could pick it up on the way out of the country but when I went to get it a week later, it had magically disappeared.

Maybe they thought grass was what they smoked?

Castillo's has some seeds in the store, haven't taken a look at what they have as I'm pretty sure anything I plant where I am would be destroyed by salt and kids.

I bought some seeds from Castillos and they did grow...flowers...I have tried planting bulbs....wanted some tulips and daffodils, but they rot in the ground. Canna lillies (tubers) do much better.

Have you tried planting the Tulips and Daffodils in raised , well drained, gardens? And mixing in compost with the garden soil.

I don't think it gets cold enough for tulips and daffodils. You would need to dig them up and put them in the refrigerator for a couple of months. Canna Lilies are tropical plants. I've only found red one in the nurseries although I have seen yellow ones blooming on the island. There are so many beautiful ones of these this is what I want to bring back with me.

I did put the bulbs in fridge for several weeks before planting, but maybe I didn't have good enough drainage....I'll try your suggestion Bill. Harriett, they have yellow and orange at Jungle Walk now, and I am taking over some red tubers and trading them for yellow ones......
