Tonight a mighty war was being wage out beyond the reef. The sky over the island was crystal clear and full of stars. A gentle breeze was blowing directly off the reef causing the palm trees to dance in the light of the palapa over the bar. There was a massive accumulation of clouds beyond the reef and the lightening on the sea ward side was casting up ghostly shapes in shades of pink and blue. There were two centers of activity about five miles apart and it was as if ancient battle ships were launching fire balls at each other. Too bad it was too far away to hear the thunder.
As I watched either the clouds were dissipating or the storm was moving closer as the flashes filled more of the sky and lost their color. I'm sure before day light the rain will come blowing in at a slant that will cross the balcony and come through the door.
I will hear the sound of it before I feel it. It always wakes me in time to get up and close the doors and windows and watch it come. It will clean and feed the jungle.
