I am humbled by the path this storm has taken. Never in my wildest dreams would I have thought yesterday at this same time that Belize would be facing this today. All the tracks had it heading North and Belize has never been hit by a hurricane during the month of August before.

My thoughts and prayers are with everyone. Be safe and stay safe, please.

diver22, so glad your nephew and his new bride made it home safe in time.

SFJeff made a very good point that people who decide to stay on the island should remember. Because we will be south of the eye, the wind will be coming from the lagoon, not the front of the island.

A key reason for staying for many of the people still here is fear of looting. During the Wilma scare when many people left the island quite a few businesses and private homes were broken into. Some people were reportedly arrested on AC yesterday "tooled up" and ready to break into places.

In Jamaica two suspected looters were shot yesterday. Perhaps they have the right idea.

Please take all precautions you can... sounds like you are in for a rough but not overwhelming weather. The surge is usually much less on the southern side of the eye and, as has been said, will come from the land side with the winds.

I would think the main problems will be power out and water gone for a good while.

Good luck to all of you and can't wait to hear that you all came through just fine!! cool We're praying for you in SC!!

Question for Marty:

Is the server for this bulletin board website physically on the island or somewhere in the way of the storm?
