In case everyone doesn't know, you can go to www.reefradio.com and listen to their broadcast online --- they are giving updates, information, evacuation info, weather reports constantly. CNN saying eye will pass of Chetamal. Reef Radio is saying to remain INDOORS. Expected to make landfall in the next couple of hours.

CANCUN, Mexico (CNN) -- Hurricane Dean burgeoned into a Category 5 storm -- capable of inflicting catastrophic damage when it makes landfall early Tuesday.

Residents look at the waters in Chetumal, Mexico. Rain from the storm hit Monday.

1 of 3 more photos The storm -- with maximum sustained winds of 160 mph -- was not expected to weaken before its landfall on the east coast of the Yucatan Peninsula, the National Hurricane Center said.

A Category 5 storm is the most extreme level on the Saffir-Simpson scale, the standard measurement for hurricanes. Such hurricanes can have a storm surge of more than 18 feet and are powerful enough to take off roofs, uproot trees and wipe out buildings.

Dean is expected to pour 5 to 10 inches of rain on the Yucatan, Belize, Guatemala and Honduras. Some areas could see up to 20 inches -- enough to "cause life-threatening flash floods and mud slides," the hurricane center said.

FWIW: WEATHER CHANNEL IN US REPORTING (11.35 BELIZE TIME) THAT EYE SHOULD HIT AROUND 100-150 MILES NORTH OF CHETUMAL, AND ANTI CLOCKWISE WINDS WILL AT LEAST HELP PROTECT AREAS SOUTH OF THE EYE FROM FLOODING BY DRIVING WATERS OFF SHORE....
ITS NOT MUCH, BUT I'LL TAKE ANY GOOD NEWS AT THE MOMENT
TO ALL OF YOU DOWN THERE STILL, STAY SAFE

PS JUST LOST REEF RADIO

It's rarely rocket science, it's usually just math: then again if you can't do the math.......

Collette, you are so sweet...calming down people miles away from the the storm that you are in the middle of. Don't know if you can recall us, but we met and chatted with you many times last winter walking the beach in the AM...Art (who always had his knee bandaged) and Ruth from Coral Bay Villas. Anyway, take care of yourself and Maya and your doggies and we'll see you in December. Thanks for the updates, they are very appreciated.
