Even though I’ve never posted before, I loved reading the trip reports before my new husband and I went to Ambergris Caye for our honeymoon. So here is my input!
We stayed at the Victoria House, in the honeymoon suite, which was gorgeous! The staff was incredibly attentive and friendly. They were extremely helpful (particularly when we had to be evacuated for Dean) and I can’t think of one bad thing to say about them. VH really is gorgeous-the room and the grounds were beautiful and very well cared for.
We were pretty exhausted when we arrived so we spent our first days lying by the pool and beach-they were both quiet and relaxing.
All of our meals were fantastic, both at VH and at the other restaurants we tried. We tried Jambels Jerk Pit for lunch one day-the jerk chicken and rice and beans were spicy and delicious! I read about Estels so many times on this website and couldn’t wait to try it. Estel definitely did not disappoint! I can’t think of a better environment in which to enjoy breakfast. One night we had dinner at Mangoes- another excellent meal. We had the grilled seafood platter at Fido’s bar-after many drinks at the chicken drop it definitely hit the spot. The Rojo lounge was also excellent for dinner. We loved the décor and sand beneath our toes, although it did take us a while to get there from VH. However, the drinks (frozen mojitoes!) and food were worth the journey. We also ate from the street carts, which were spicy, delicious and cheap!
We rented a golf cart one day and enjoyed bopping around the island-especially stopping at the seaside bars. The Palapa bar, North of the bridge was definitely the coolest. We also went snorkeling and fishing-it seemed that the fish couldn’t get into our boat fast enough! We caught yellow snapper, tuna, barracuda, and mackerel. We had the snapper and mackerel for lunch-there really is nothing better than fish that fresh.
Unfortunately we had to cut our trip short due to Dean, but VH was kind enough to credit us for the lost days. We are already planning our trip next July and can't wait!
