Does anyone know about this rental? Also, is it north or south of town?

Found this on the Lodging link for the message board.
http://www.casacaracol.com/sanpedro_map.htm
It shows that Casa Caracol is north of town (but not north of the cut). Very short stroll to town.
Sorry can't help further than that as I have never stayed there, or know anyone that has. Not that that means anything.

Casa Caracol is pretty much in town, on the northern fringe, but in town, the area is called Boca del Rio and the coolest neighborhood on the island! Really cool folks own the building.

My wife and I have stayed at Casa Caracol twice as part of a group of 5....both weeks we stayed on the first floor. Very nice place for the $$. Close enough to town that you don't need to rent a golf cart...it's only ~10 minute walk to resturants, bars, stores. Phil (owner) takes great care of the place and can arrange for any tours/trips that you would like to take. It's also only a few minute walk to the Boca del Rio bakery every morning for breakfest goodies. It is also just a few houses North of Tide's beach bar...Butch will take good care of you and your drinks.

I second the opinion of KYJeff. Four of us stayed on the first floor last July. At the time, the upstairs unit was being updated, so the bottom floor might also be renovated by now. It is a great value, and if you are still looking for 5 bedrooms, it would be great. With the 2 separate units, you could have some privacy if the group didn't want to spend every waking minute together, but also be very close to each other when you wanted to get together. Phil is super, as is the Tides, which is only about 3 doors down, so the walk to the pool is nothing. It is close enough to town that you can walk but far enough away that you escape the noise.

I agree with the others. Casa Caracol is a great location and Phil will take good care of you. I stayed there on two different trips. First time we rented the first floor, second time my group rented the entire house. Phil arranged our trips both times and offered sound advise on what to see, where to dine, where to rent bikes and golf carts. When we were there in February, there was a nice snorkeling area off the end of Patojo's dock, just a short distance from the house. We walked to the Boca del Rio bakery almost everyday. Found something tastie on every visit.
