And never too shy for the grandstand, Bradley took a broader populist turn in his remarks. Even as the leader of business for a government that has sold all public interests in BTL sold the golden share for a dollar, and given Fortis rights of use for the Macal River for decades, Bradley says he longs for the day when Belizeans get it all back.
Senator Richard "Dickie" Bradley,
"I'll tell you something. I'd prefer that I was reading amendments and so on that I'd have read something here where the government will use monies from the petroleum fund, one of these days when its in the billions, and buy back the electricity company, buy back the whole matter of producing electrical power in this country and take it back into the hands of the public sector. That is the new trend that's coming out of Latin America, that we have followed the capitalist hogs who are greeding up and hogging up everything and what is happening is that we end up paying more for electricity, more for water, more for telephone. Look at how much money we pay for telephones.
So the government must be responsible. No PUC, no Commission, or somebody - let's put it squarely where it belongs, the government is responsible for when electricity goes up and the government is responsible for when electricity goes down.
I can say I look forward to the time when we could take back this whole business of electricity from the people who have it. Most citizens in this country, we noh happy with wi phone company and we noh happy with BEL and although that has nothing to do with subsection 4 or section 5, I am saying that as a general view that anything that requires to be done in the interest of all the people who have to use electricity. Lot of us could switch to solar. We have to let these people know we noh happy with them."

Meaning take it away from the regulators (PUC) and put it in the hands of the Govt, who can give Ashcroft and Fortis exactly what they ask for. PUC is not a public advocacy group, but is the only protection the customer has from these rapacious utility companies and the Govt, who are in bed with both. This is not good.

from a friend...

I'd hate to see public utilities fall into the hands of corrupt pols.

Far better in my view to amend the laws to allow true competition in
these industries
