WE are coming down in October with our 9 & 10 yr old and have had them collecting new school supplies to bring with us for the local elementary school. Is this a problem and does anyone have a contact at the school?

Suecate,

Tacogirl or Tacoboy on this board are your best contacts for Holy Cross school. I am sure when she sees you post she will respond, but you can send either of them a private message.

Hi Sueaate

Dita is right, if you would like to make your donation to Holy Cross I can help you on that.

There are many other schools on the island as well, all are good causes.

Would love to help. We have notebooks, pens, pencils crayons all the basics. Just didn't know how much can be brought in and where to send. You can contact me and we can chat about the particulars.

Be prepared to pay a bit of duty. Customs is usually very generous when they know you are donating, but I have been charged duty on the last 3 trips - anywhere from $2.50 to $15 US.

The library is San Pedro is a wonderful place to donate as they provide services to all of the children on the island, no matter where they go to school.

I can never remember which is better . . . safe? . . . or sorry?

what are some of the things they need. Staples is always having there one cent sale. We don't want to bring anything to heavy like books due to the weight constraints on the airlines. I am sure when we have a contact we can always ship some.

markers (especially the washable ones), crayons, pencils
construction paper is a big deal because it's difficult to come by on the island
library books get lots of use & they tape them when they are damaged and keep using them, so the wide clear packing tape is always helpful
any type of small toys that can be used as prizes/rewards for projects and reading contests
stickers!
the library has a laminating machine and the laminating sheets are also very much appreciated
something that takes very little room to pack is printer cartridges - these are very expensive to obtain there so are greatly appreciated. PM me if you'd like more info on sizes, etc.

My salesman @ Staples and I are going to become great friends I will see what I can fit in an empty suitcase and let you all know. Please let me know where the school is or to make arrangements to get the supplies.
