ScotiaBank Delivers New Home to Hurricane Dean Victim in Corozal

The full force of category 5 Hurricane Dean didn't hit Corozal Town but that northern municipality did take sustained winds estimated at between 75 and 100 miles an hour for 4 solid hours. Many homes all across the district were damaged and at least half dozen of them were completely destroyed. One of those who had her home destroyed was Adelita Gilharry. She is the mother of 9 and was left with nowhere to stay.

And that's where the Scotia Bank came in. Apart from other contributions to NEMO and the Red Cross, the bank raised $100,000 to provide direct housing relief to 5 families. A new two bedroom home was presented to Adelita Gilharry today at her home in the Venezuela site of Corozal Town. She was grateful.

A home was also provided to Maria Guadalupe Lopez today. Three more will be distributed over the next three weeks.
