Colossal Crustacean Caught in Caye Caulker
[Linked Image]

Caye Caulker Village, Sunday, October 7, 2007
- A young Caye Caulker resident is pictured holding on to a huge monster lobster caught on the island Sunday afternoon, October 7th.

The behemoth lobster was caught underneath a pile of rubble which was at one time the old seawall at the popular tourist hangout, the Split.
Harry Dole, manager of the Lazy Lizard Bar located at the Split commented that this mother of all lobsters weighed in at over 6 pounds. He believed it to be one of the biggest crustaceans nabbed in Caulker for many a moon.

The lobster can easily feed three hungry adults- now that's a lot of tail.

It's a lot of tail, but they should have let it go.

Hard to tell, but here's some info:

"But there's one lobster fact that trumps them all: lobsters show no apparent signs of aging. They don't slow down or become weaker or more susceptible to disease. They don't get infertile -
older lobsters are actually more fertile than younger ones. Most lobsters seem to die because of something inflicted upon them and not because a body part failed or broke down. They're such hardy creatures that scientists aren't even sure how old lobsters can get."

And large lobsters can only mate with lobsters of their own or similar size. Large lobsters travel further to distribute their offspring and so creating a better chance of survival for them. Better survival means more lobster for us, yes?

My opinion: The big ones should be thrown back . . . after someone has taken their picture, of course.
