I must have hit all the worst places to eat in Belize City. On each shopping trip I try another - some so dismal not one bit went in my mouth. A cab driver did take me to a good place where the locals ate, but I of course did not know where I was..... So help me out with a good place for lunch in the city center. Thanks, Indygal

Try the Smokey Mermaid which is located in the Great House hotel. The Great House is at 13 Cork Street and located across the street from the Radisson Fort George. For great burgers try the Riverside Tavern which is on the river at corner of North Front and Mapp Street.

We go to a chinese place just up the street from the post office by the swing bridge. Looks like a dive from the outside, but great food inside. Right next door to where Courts outlet was.

Raddison Ft. George has nice food, good prices and air conditioning. I prefer to order from the menu (buffet is not as good as the food made to order).
Chon Saan Palace has excellent Chinese food.
Harbour View is a great setting, and food is good.
Off the northern highway there is an very good italian bistro - I forget the name - it's across from Treasures on Buttonwood Bay Blvd.
The Indian restaurant north of the Princess on the water - formerly known as Sea Rock (again I forget the name) serves awesome food.

I third the Indian Restaurant! Love the Butter Chicken!
Also the tavern beside the distributor is pretty good.

I love the Indian place.

The Jambels Jerk pit just off Albert Street is great and walking distance in the center of the city.

The Riverside Tavern is lovely, but you have to check your firearm at the door.

Chon Saan Palace used to be great - but haven't been there in a while.

If it isn't too hot to sit outdoors the best spot on the river is the Dizzy Lizard right next door to the tourist village.

Smokey Mermaid is nice - I enjoy going there for dinner.

Fort George/Raddison do some nice bar snacks - seafood baskets, club sandwiches etc - cold beer and airconditioning, view of the sea.
