Hey everyone, Okay--I need the final word please!! :-) I've searched the message board, I've called my doctor (who referred me to another doctor, who won't answer questions about vaccines on the phone without an appointment) and I can't get an actual person at the CDC. Do we need Hepatitus shots or Malaria pills or to take any special medical precautions whatsoever if travelling to Ambergris Caye???? We will be staying there for the duration of our trip, and will only be fishing the flats (my boyfriend had some infectious mosquito concern regarding those areas for some reason) Everyone seems to have a different opinion on the matter. :-) I would appreciate any and all responses!! Thanks so much....Eva

Eva....I don't think you will have a problem with it....although I've had quite a few mosquito bites today...so they are still around. Depends on your own immune system. I'd hate to tell you not to take them and something happen to you and then you would blame me...LOL So when in doubt, take them. Can't hurt....and you won't have to worry on the trip. Better to worry about those bonefish!

Hey Sandshaker, Thanks for the info. :-) I've just heard some dreadful stuff about Malaria pills (and there are different kinds you can take from what I understand too) It's getting stressful to be able to take a trip to de-stress!!!! Again though, thank you for your take on the matter, and I will most definitely be leaving the Bonefish to my boyfriend---I'll be in a hamock reading and sunning!! Take care, Eva

Eva, Much of this mosquito madness depends on what time of year you will be on AC. Mosquitos are there during the wet season. Dry season has way fewer bugs.

When I visit Ambergris I do not take shots or pills, and I am over 60, and have not gotten sick. But I would reconsider if I were going to spend alot of time on the mainland. Always carry repellent with high %of Deet, but have not had to use it yet.

I've been to Belize many times and have never taken any kinds of shots... well, not medicinal shots anyway. If you were going inland for a prolonged period then they would be advisable... but for the island, I wouldn't bother.

Well meaning friends in the USA, will give you their opinions, on traveling to Belize, and they do not know anything about Belize. They just have to say something, probably jealous of our trips to Belize.

You don't need anything but a plane ticket! Seriously, been many times, never had a shot, pills, or nothing like that.
Like Chloe said, bring high % deet for the bugs, usually you won't need it...
