Crocpete,
I stayed at Black Rock about 3 years ago. It's a quite interesting drive up, very scenic, but the "road" is (or was) more like a glorified pig trail. The Lodge was actually very nice, in a great setting. The food was pretty good, just not much variety. It was "family style". The rooms were individual cabins, and of course, they operated on generator. There was no tv, (so I took my computer with several dvd's). There was a ceiling fan, but that didn't really keep in cool enough for me. One of my biggest complaints was that the room had screens only from like chest up, so I had some privacy issues. During the night, I think "Bigfoot" visited my porch, although I was assured it was not.
So, if you aren't a Holiday Inn kind of traveler, want a jungle experience, and look forward to peace and quiet.... I think Black Rock is a great choice.
