I've been doing as much research as I can regarding opening a local bank account and getting a DSL internet connection set up when I arrive in SP.

Any idea what ID I will require to open an account? Will a passport and driving licence suffice?

As I understand it from my investigations, BTL deny their users access to VoIP services, and that Coral Cable is an alternative provider that is somewhat better in this respect. Yet I can't seem to find a website for Coral Cable. Please can anyone tell me how to get in touch with them to find out available speeds, connection/running costs, how long it takes to install? Are there any resellers on SP for Coral/BTL?

Thanks in advance,
alan

Inkblot, we opened an account a while back, and we needed picture ID's, two letters of reference from our banks here in the states, and, of course your deposite $$$. I think that's all.

We had no problem opening a Bank account, we actually did it from the States before we moved down. The only error we made were our reference letters from our U.S. Bank.We had to go back and get new ones. They do not want the typical staetment of money you may have in the Bank and credit history. They are looking for a more personal letter,as;
John Doe has had an account at our Bank since 1994. He is in good standing and a upstanding member of our community.

We also got a letter from our local police which was a plus.

You can use voip here, like SKYPE if you use Anchor Free, hotspot shield etc.

coral cable is a distributer for btl - you'll still need encryption software to use voip.

You can download the "Hotspot Shield" for no charge at www.anchorfree.com It works great! As soon as the Hotspot Shield disconnects, SKYPE disconnects also. Within seconds of re-connecting Hotspot Shield, SKYPE pops right up.

We got here about a week ago and stopped by the coral cable office to get cable and they were there that afternoon. We had to show a picture ID (we had an Alaska drivers license). No problem.
