About 8 years ago there was a group of citizens appointed 'Special Constables' is this reference above to that group or do we now have trained professionals that its in reference to?

i just replied on the main board Elbert... but it's my understanding that these constables were actually trained by the police, however the program was not active due to a lack of funds.

i'm pretty sure that was in one of the newspapers a week or two ago when they talked about this issue.

Yes special constables are trained to conduct their duties in a professional manner.

I used to be a special constable back in the early '90's. I "retired" to raise the kids.

As Tacoboy mentioned there is a distinct lack of funds available to aid in hosting the training, equiping and operations of the Special Constables unit. A small group of concerned businesses has been funding limited activities. We have seen some big results from this program (mainly behind the scenes) and hope that with additional support the program can get back into full swing.

If more people put their money (or their time and efforts) where the mouths are, we would have more results and less problems.
