check out this link: http://southbeachbelize.pointinvestment.com/about.htm

Funny I haven't heard anything about this, nor seen anything in the papers (did I miss it?), but it seems like a development this HUGE would have to be obtaining a few permits to build something like this....and how are they going to support the water and electric demands, another casino, must be some dredging to do it,????? Inquiring mind wants to know.

yep, the condos look to be the exact same plan as at Reef Village. Interesting...

Well, it is the same developer - stands to reason he would stick with a tried and true product.

I am just concerned at how close he is to Marco Gonsales. It would make sense for that ruin to be declared a park and for any exemptions to planning rules be tied to funding some part of that.I can not say that this is an original thought as a couple of friends have brought it up to me. Of course, it is probably too late. Also, neighbors should keep an eye out for any encroaching on to the site which is totally illegal and should be immediately reported to Jaime Awe. In the past, he has come right over and has stopped projects.

I have seen the signs for this but just checked out the web site for the first time - did I really see 6 different hotels?? That's hilarious! The one thing that did occur to me is that unless they move the dump those lucky hotel guests will have dump smell, dump smoke and flies blowing in their general direction for most of the year.

Rumour has it we have these guys to thank for getting the water main installed this far south so have to thank them for that!!

One other thing I was curious about - If your villa is on the water - what happens when there is a 3 -5 foot storm surge as seems quite common during a hurricane??

Technically the island is put into a "state of emergency" and mandatory evactuations are ordered during hurricanes, so home and business owners will come back after the storm and mop up, just like you do anywhere else in the world that experiences floods and storm surges.

They had nothing to do with it. Chris deserves the kudos.

I don't know Chris but thanks very much for getting the water sorted out.

Amanda - I appreciate your sarcasm and here is some back...if you travel around Belize you will notice that most locals build up above the ground. Also - if you drive around the neighbourhoods on the backside in the rainy season huge areas are under water and stagnant water is everywhere. This is the way it is now. Both of these projects are on land that has had to be built up. The area where South Beach is located is full of sink holes and swampy areas (has anyone followed a dump truck through the detour by Banana Beach - the ground below the truck literally moves as the truck rolls over it - kinda cool!!). If Ambergris Caye has a couple of really wet years or a couple of bad storms close together, what will the impact be on these areas. The developers strip most of the protective mangrove away and we have all seen how much good a sea wall will do you in a bad storm - they are useless.

My Dad lives in Florida where they have spent billions over many decades to create the inland waterways and even now when they have hurricanes the sea walls suffer major damage and it costs millions to repair them - My Dad had to come up with an extra 7000 US to pay for the sea wall in his condo complex two years ago - who will pay at South Beach??

Also - when you look on the map for this project if seems to encompase areas where other privately owned homes are located. The trolly is also amusing - reminds me of the Corona highway!!

If you are shopping for an income property or retirement home it seems to me that one would want all of the information both pro's and con's and then make an informed decision. If people want to buy knowing all the risks then good luck to them. I sometimes get the impression on this board that criticism is reserved for only a select few!!! Just my opinion!!
