Hi we are wondering what would be better for us. We love isla mujeres and hate the hotel zone. We did find that the last time we were at the isla it was just a bit too quite. We like to go out for supper and sit and have a drink or two but be home around 10.00 or 11.00. Looking forward to some suggestions Conny

We've been to Caye Caulker 3 times and love it. We're going to Ambergris in February for a change. From your description, I'm not sure which you would prefer. I don't know what too quiet means.

Ths link below will let you see the pictures of Caye Caulker and maybe give you a feel for it. Can't help much with Ambergris until after our trip.

I like Caulker, have enjoyed my brief stay there. But, I love Ambergris. More choices as far as food, drink and places to stay. Easier to find live music at night.

I've also been to Isla several times, will return again in March. My last visit was January. I found it anything but quiet, Hidalgo was a bit of a zoo at night. Defnitely more going on in a small space than on Ambergris.

When I was on Isla, Hidalgo seemed to be one endless string of bars/restaurants. Music blaring from lots of places. I have no idea if most of it was live or not.

I'm not really looking for nightlife, I'm home by 10 or 11 every night, whether I'm on vacation or not.

I can't talk at all about the 'late' night places on either island.

Hi Conny,

We have been to both and really like AC the best. CC is nice to but a bit to quiet for us. There are not as many choices for places to eat. Why don't you do both? You could fly on to one and then take the water taxi to the other for the rest of your stay!!

lakegirl, great idea. I recommend a day or two on CC then the rest on AC.
