We stayed at Ramon's on our first trip to AC. Although I thought it was overpriced, we did enjoy everything else about it. I had always wanted to stay in a thatch-roof "hut" or whatever, so I got my wish. We happened to be there when a tropical storm (maybe even a small hurricane) passed by in the Carribean. The winds really kicked up and you could hear, very clearly, the waves crashing over the reef. Next morning we woke up covered in fine debris from the thatching, and a little water had leaked in but otherwise, all was well. They had begun cleaning the beach in front of Ramon's by daylight. They keep it spotless even during non storm times. Anyway, that is what made us decide to buy property there. It just seemed fairly well protected from minor storms like that. (Living in Florida, we are used to hurricanes, too).
We haven't stayed at Ramon's since then but we always eat there at least once and of course, hang out at their bar a little. The beach, and pier, and dive operations are great there. If the price doesn't bother you, I say go for it.
