What, if any, immunizations are folks getting when visiting? We're coming down in April and the travel bureaus here are recommending a bunch of different things, Hep A, typhoid, update tetanus, and malaria. We're wondering how much we should be concerned as I haven't noticed it mentioned very often in the threads here. I have seen the occasional reference to Malaria, but other than that, nadda.
Thanks in advance.

On my soapbox again for vaccination for Hepatitis A for anyone traveling to Central America. And probably Hepatitis B as well, since you can get them both in one injection.

Tetanus should be up to date for everyone, whether you're traveling or not.

We took tyhpoid pills and malaria pills when we were spending time inland, haven't bothered since. That doesn't mean you shouldn't. The meds are recommended by CDC.

IMO; we read about all that too before we came down in December, of course it set me off thinking "Oh my" but when it got down to it, We opted out on Malaria and Typhoid. We are up to date on Hep A and B as well as tetanus but from what I have heard and read the recorded cases of Malaria on the island are very few. If we were to go inland for an extended amount of time we would think a little more about the malaria pills other than that I'm not much worried about it. This is only my opinion.

Thanks for the heads up *I DO*, I didn't look far enough into the past in my search. We'll be there in April, which from what I can tell, is the dry season, and only plan on going onto the mainland for the Lamanai tour.

We took Malaria, got typhoid and Hep A and B. I take Malaria everytime we visit because I just have this nagging feeling that the one mosquito that carries malaria and is visiting AC would find me! LOL! I think Hep A and B is a really good idea. Tetanus should always be updated. Malaria (unless you are me) is an option depending how much time on the mainland you are going to spend.

Many of these vaccinations need to be taken over a period of months so you might want to begin the regimen soon.

Tetanus, hep A and B should be seriously considered no matter where you live or visit.

Typhoid isn't a big issue ( no major outbreaks) , but it is a valid concern.

When I was a kid we used to take the anti-malaria pills. They never actually made us feel any different (didn't make us ill) so for peace of mind they could be considered.

In the end your own GP knows your medical conditions and history and should be consulted.

Get this covered and out of your mind so that you can begin planning the fun part of the trip.
