Posted a question on the other site (didn't realize there were 2 sites)about chartering a sailboat in Ambergris Caye for a week in early May, late May, or early June....and the cap'n suggested early May was best.
Any sailors out there with info to share... would love to get your input. We were thinking of going Memorial Day weekend, but now am having second thoughts.
Also love to hear your general imressions of sailing in the area.

The differences in weather over such a short span of time are unpredictable... but the weather will be generally good all through this time period. Pick you time and come on down... you'll have a great time!

I agree with Jesse that over a short period weather patterns can be and often are unpredictable, in Belize as elsewhere. For example, in recent years seasonal rains in central Belize have started in May, June and also not until early July. Short-term weather factors, totally unpredictable beyond a few days out, would have more impact on sailing conditions than anything else.

Also keep in mind that the seasonal rains that Lan mentions don't amount to much. It'll be warm and showers last only a few minutes. Great way to rinse the boat!

annieo....last year, March, my husband and I chartered a Catamaran from TMM and sailed her south for 7 days. It was great! However, the charts available are NOT for navigational purposes so you need someone on the bow for the tricky spots and some of the islands are impossible with a setting sun or at twilight. Also, if you are doing overnights, make sure of double anchors! It's great sailing for cats but I wouldn't want to try it with a monohull; but, then, I'm not that experienced. Have fun.

Jerrico, that's what we were planning....a cat from TMM. Why did you need the double anchors at night...Was it rough? How far south did you get in the one week? We are hoping to get in 1 or 2 dives too.
