Hello everyone!!!! Which bank would you recommend to cash AMEX traveler's cheques? Or are the banks usually pretty much the same? Thanks! :o)

I used Belize Bank, Front Street, when I was there in March. No fuss, no muss, no charges.

Most places take traveler's checks--restaurants, accomidations, stores, etc. Don't worry, everyone takes them, except the park vendors.

I ran into someone recently that said they had a really hard time using them on the mainland (all throughout). May want to keep that in mind.

I've been reading about people having trouble with them as well, not necessarily in Belize. The businesses claim the signatures don't match. I know my signature doessn't look the same twice, and the ones on traveler's checks are really sloppy by the time you've signed a dozen or more of them at the bank.

I once tried to cash some TC's at the branch bank that issued them, and where I had an account. They made the same claim about my signature. That was in California!

On the other hand, I can take one off to Milos and have no problem at all ........

Some vendors do not want TC's because they do not have a convenient and ready way to convert then quickly to cash.
