some of the car rental places in Bz City will let you do a one way rental but there is a steep one way surcharge. The rental prices are $80-100/day average + 10% tax and insurance (varies but about $15/day). one way fee about $150US - basically you are paying for them to fly someone down and drive the vehicle back. there is a rental place in Placencia if you just need the car while you are there. www.barefootrentals.net
The drive is Ok till you get to the Placencia road, which is still unpaved. (maybe someone from Placencia will chime in here and give the current status on the road condition)

Rented a Chevy Tracker from Crystal Auto Rental last week and the rate was $69.95US per day plus the 10% tax and $13.95US for collision insurance.

Thank you for the information... still not sure if driving is the right way as we need to get back to goldson early in the morning. what would be the easiest and or budget friendly way to depart San Pedro and see Tulu in Placencia..

flying is expensive, so we didn't do it. i dont think there is ferry service between the two. fly, bus, or drive is it, i think.

Easiets - flying. Budget friendly - bussing but you won't get back early enough for an early flight out. Bus down, fly back?

It's too long of a drive to get back anywhere early from Placencia, due to the road condition at the end. We drove a rental from BC to Placencia on our first trip to Belize, thinking we were saving money....had a medical emergency while in Placencia and were forced to fly back to BC for medical reasons, leaving our rental car at airport in Placencia.

Second trip to Placencia, we flew down and back - quick trips and well worth the cost and time savings. That road trip is LONG!

We are thinking of driving down in Feb. Isn't there lots of things to see along the way? Or is it just worth it to fly?

The drive is long but yes, there are lots of good things to see on the way. And the Hummingbird Hwy is very scenic.
