Oh dear! Amanda, did I see you say that the new trash can project has been vandalized at certain places??

So disheartening.

I haven't seen any of the new ones being vandalized - yet, but I have seen the past sets of trash cans ruined time and time again.

Education is the key. But even then, there's just no way to control bad seeds.

Very sad.

Trashing trash cans ............ hm - if we want to begin educating folks about not vandalizing the San Pedro we could perhaps re-examine the practice of carnival paint tossing ---- really sad to see the townspeople paint and fix up for high season only to have a bunch of painted handprints and other slop end up all over everything by Easter.

This article from the Economist was posted on the "other" forum. Thought some of you might find it interesting as it somewhat pertains to this topic.

Benidorm is one of the vacation spots that is in the spotlight for "green" eco tourism these days. I haven't read this article yet - just looked at the headline- but did read one a few weeks ago.

That was a nice article jzb. If I get a chance I will find the other story - it was more along the lines of we may have ruined our allure - but we are now going to take steps to improve our quality of life and support the environment.

The building of my home was definately progress...all subsequent building is obviously a threat to the delicate ecology. A moritorium on commercial development would allow the intrastructure to catch-up on previous rampade development...and will increase the value of existing properties.

Mayor of San Pedro Town Elsa Paz told this reporter that yes, she supports South Beach Belize as well as any other development.

".....as well as any other development."
