From the article referenced in my first post about BPA...
And water bottle manufacturer Nalgene announced April 18 (2008)it would phase out use of BPA in its containers in response to public concern about the chemical.
This would indicate that some, if not all, older Nalgene bottles were made with BPA plastic. I just had a quick peek at their website and under the product lines I looked at, there was a very prominent "BPA Free" designation.
It would be difficult to know if an ebay sale was a new bottle or a sell off of the old ones.
...and how would it be even possible for someone as sweet as you to stink
